About Blake

A songwriter, actor, vocalist, and theatre educator, with supreme soul. Unpredictable, yet fluid, and freely authentic. Blake creates experiences that reawaken our strong bonds to the earth and humanity. He has starred in the shows 'Wicked' and 'Mamma Mia!' on Broadway.

As a singer/songwriter he released a debut album entitled ‘More Like Myself’ available on Spotify and iTunes, and was named NY-1's Pick of the Week for his hit show at Joe's Pub. He was a proud member of the Johnny Mercer Songwriting Project.

Blake has collaborated and written songs with Celisse Henderson. Celisse is now playing with Grammy Winner Brandi Carlile. Co-produced his debut album with Jeffrey Lee Campbell of Sting. Collaborated with prolific song mixer Adam Hawkins on multiple songs. Adam has worked with songwriter Regina Spektor and producer Mike Elizondo. Blake also collaborated with songwriter Roseanne Cash in a lyric workshop. He is scoring a new film entitled ’Two Toed Punch’.

Blake produced, directed, and played in his own music festival at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Collaborating with six different choreographers from ballet to hip-hop, a string quartet and jazz sextet, Blake created a unique fusion of music and dance.

Partnering with the Parks and Recreation department in Portage, Michigan, Blake conceived the idea of "Hike To A Concert". This event was an active music immersion experience encouraging exploration, adventure, physical movement, and offering the deep rewards of wild nature and live music combined. "Hike To A Concert" happened summer of 2015 and 2016. Over 250 folks hiked to the event.

Blake was selected as a Musician in Residence at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. He spent four weeks collaborating with musicians from around the world and cultivating his project, “Capturing the Spirit and Soul of Banff”.

As an educator Blake has taught master classes at Denison University and Kalamazoo College, lecturing on songwriting, acting, voice, and the demands of being a sustainable artist in New York City. He is currently a Visiting Assitant Professor of Musical Theatre at Oakland University. He has taught widely around the United States as a teaching artist. He received his Masters in Songwriting at NYU Steinhardt and was also awarded a diversity and inclusion award at NYU for work being proactive against racism at NYU.

Blake’s finest creation to date is his daughter Kya (7) and son Haven (3).

Press

This is an earnest debut album from an old soul that is evident the first time, and the tenth time you listen to it.

Titanic, Uplifting and Absolutely Irresistible. Honest, self-aware and completely relatable, he is the entire package. Come to think of it, pop music could use a few more like him.

Land/Charles Eliot Explorer Song Copyright Blake Whyte Music 2019

Take me to Sarasota, Valdosta, Indiana, Appleton Wisconsin, or Nashville.

Take me to Grand Rapids, back to Boston, Fort Lauderdale, or Memphis. Or New York!

But anywhere I go I’ll find the land. I’ll find the beauty….

Take me to church on Sunday, deliver me, in your bounty, I’ll be in the woods. Hallelujah.

Take me away from the city. Not my place there, not my home, I’ll be swimming!

Cause anywhere I go I’ll find the land. I’ll find the trails…

(Charles Eliot’s own words in BOLD, circa 1800’s)

Oh the public needs no proof, of the importance of human happiness, in bits of scenery which possess uncommon beauty, and more than usual refreshing power. An antidote to city life!

Nor is it necessary to remind you, that the beauty of love and art will surely die, if it be cut at it’s roots, by destroying, or vulgarizing, the beauty of nature.

Cause Just as the public library holds books, and the art museum pictures, for the use and enjoyment of the public, the PUBLIC!

Cause anywhere I go I’ll find, the land! X3 I’ll find the trails…..

I am pleased to announce the world’s first statewide conservation and preservation organization, becomes a reality today, on May 21, 1891 in Mass. The Trustees of Public Reservations. The world's first organization acquired to hold and protect, for the benefit of the public, beautiful and historical places. I am Charles Eliot and I am a landscape architect.

This is my home, this is our home, this is my home.
